As a smart and passionate business person, you may have set new goals and strategies for the next 12 months, but are you making social media resolutions?
I’ve made no secret of my reasons why social media should be a key part of your marketing strategy; not only does it get you heard and create brand awareness, it also becomes a platform to interact with current and potential customers.
It’s crucial to re-evaluate social media strategy as soon as it feels like something isn’t working, so a new year is a perfect excuse to make this a focus.
So, what social media resolutions should small businesses and marketers be making? A short summary:
- Make a habit: Plan to incorporate social media into your daily routine
- Make curation a priority: not only does it keep you up to date on what’s going on the industry, but it allows people to see things more often for you, so they can associate you with your expertise and business interests.
- Be spontaneous: – Don’t be afraid to share on the fly, it can be scary at first, but real time sharing shows your human side.
- Become a pre-planner: It saves lots of time
- Inject the human factor: It’s ok to have a personality, it makes it easier to “connect” and let people see the “real” you
Businesses that establish these five things will be well on their way to a successful social strategy for 2017.

I’ve been busy in the last few weeks writing for a number of online publications. And, I am super-pleased to have added to this list with guest contributions on the Marketing Business Forum newsletter and Business Matters Magazine.
This month, I wrote an article for Digital Marketing Magazine, Fresh Business Thinking and their combined audience of 100,000 digital marketers and small business owners, advising on ‘how to make the most of social media tools in business’.
It’s always amazing to be recognised for the hard work we put in to unveiling our clients’ “unique greatness”.
So, this month, we’re delighted to announce that we have been named a Technology Innovator Award winner by Corporate Vision magazine for being London’s ‘Most Bespoke Design Software Company 2016’!
I recently had an exciting opportunity to contribute to a blog for CIM Exchange, the online content hub for the Chartered Institute of Marketing, about ‘how SMEs can maintain the human touch’. As a regular speaker on the topic of social media, I was definitely up for giving my strong opinions and “top tips” on how to utilise automation tools, while still keeping it personal.
A while ago I was introduced to Craig Lesser who works at a company called Smart Currency Business. They had a genius idea to create a series of printed magazines aimed at different industries – the very industries that Smart Currency works with. By getting in touch with people who could advise these industries, Craig was not only collecting good contributions to the magazine but also meeting a whole new set of people (and once you meet Craig, you want to introduce him to people as he is just such a great guy – helpful and smart too!)
As you probably know, I do a lot of social media training (visit my social media training page for latest workshop information), and I truly believe that anyone can learn pretty easily as long as they want to. One of my students who came for a one to one session is also a journalist – and she wrote an article about the experience.
