Lessons learned: An intern’s reflections on working at Top Left Design
Hello, I’m Kate, and for the last three weeks I’ve been working as an intern at Top Left Design. From researching themes for websites, to organising an office surprise party, I’ve done and learned a lot during my time here. So without further ado, here are my top 9 lessons learned while working at Top Left Design.
ALWAYS hold down the shift key to avoid picture distortion
When attempting to resize an image in Photoshop using the free transform command, use the shift key – otherwise, be prepared for wonkiness.
A clean and simple web theme is almost always best.
‘There are no mistakes, only lessons’
A proverb in tribute to Chinatown, which I journeyed through daily on my way to and from work. It’s true though; making mistakes is a crucial part of the learning process.
Preparing the content of a website for Russian translation takes a while.
Mind maps can be fun!
‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again’
Another proverb, also very true.
Infographics are awesome!
Here’s just one example – a “Build your best Sangria” infographic from missouriwine.org:
Google has the answer to everything.
Coffee and walnut cake will always be a winner at a mid-afternoon, meeting room surprise party!
So there you have it – my top 9 lessons learned during my time at Top Left Design. A big thank you to Keren and the whole team at Top Left Design for having me!
