Here’s why great working relationships increase productivity!
I am Jeff Yu from China. Last Christmas, I was preparing my portfolio in Tongji University Shanghai to apply for a master course in University of the Arts London. This Christmas, I have been studying in London for three months and working in Top Left Design for two weeks.
Editor’s Note (from Keren) This Poképost was written by James Ross – he has just done a week’s internship, and I set him the project of going out and experiencing Pokémon Go in Soho! Over to James:
I have been in London for two months now. It means many days and hours spent. It also means a lot of adventures lived, lessons learnt, and issues faced (most of them solved, happily!)
This post explores some of the challenges I have experienced during my work placement, and a few humble pieces of advice I can now share from experience!
I turn the key into the lock until it’s bolted, slip it into my pocket, and walk away from the door towards the street. The sky is the same hue as the asphalt of the deserted street, like I am walking on a frozen lake reflecting the stormy clouds. As I approach the Tube station, there are more and more people occupying the wet pavement. Some touches of colour show up from the wildest clothes of the magnifying crowd, gradually making the ubiquitous grey of the urban landscape recede into the background. Soon, I reach the station. I notice a great ad across the street offering a journey to Paris, which is described as the “European capital of romance and culture”. I smile – pretty proud – and nod to myself.
Hi, my name is Rabia and I have done 3 weeks internship at TLD. Coming to TLD has made my passion in design grow even further. After these 3 weeks at TLD I have gained first-hand experience in what work life is really like and how to work to deadlines but also have fun at the same time by bringing a smile to the team by asking for a cup of tea or helping them out with their work which they have sent to me to do.
Hi, I’m Oscar, and I worked at TLD for one month. I recommend anyone reading, who is planning to apply for or who is going to work at TLD as an intern, to at least read the tips I have accumulated throughout the internship. It will give you a head start and trust me when I tell you this, anyone who can impresses Keren is worthy. I also think that if you are reading this, you should read the blogs from my fellow previous intern brothers and sisters.
This post was written by Rhea Lempert, who did 2 weeks of work experience in February 2015 at Top Left Design.
Hi! My name is Rhea, I am fourteen and interested in design and copywriting. After spending a very fast two week placement at TLD, I’ve experienced a part of the working world and how it can be great fun with the TLD crowd. I’ve also seen just how a hot cup of tea or coffee can put a smile on anyone here!
Hello, I’m Kate, and for the last three weeks I’ve been working as an intern at Top Left Design. From researching themes for websites, to organising an office surprise party, I’ve done and learned a lot during my time here. So without further ado, here are my top 9 lessons learned while working at Top Left Design.
We are sad to say goodbye to Diana, our intern for the last month. She has been a breath of fresh air: proactive, friendly, efficient, helpful, and positive. Exceptional on all fronts. And she cooked for us too! Words can’t really say enough of how exceptional Diana is. Pictures might help though! Many below are from our amazing TLD Treasure Hunt, including the amazing “jig in front of a pic” video she filmed, which will always be a source of joy for us.
