I guess the counter-question for this is: Why would the majority of businesses today either be doing something about social media, or otherwise mortifyingly aware that they aren’t doing it right/enough/effectively?
True, it’s often a waste of time.
There are many ways you can optimise your site for search engines and many of them are what we call “the bare minimum – we do them anyway!”.
Is your website working as hard as it could be for you?
Does it have all the right ingredients? Is it inviting, impressive, and clear? Is it enticing people to stick around?
If you are getting a new site made, that’s great! Yay!

IF you have a great presence on Google (other search engines) already, here’s something to consider seriously, and before you launch – there’s a risk that the new website will have significantly lower Google rankings on launch.
Nowadays, having a good business – even if it is the best business ever – is not enough. We are in an age where a business must have the highest possible visibility to stand out from the competition. Google and Bing, amongst others, offer us an easy, reliable, free way to effectively increase our visibility.
Search engines are programmed to give people links to sites that most match their search words and phrases. While we don’t want you to “stuff your page” with keywords, we do think it’s good to be mindful of these when writing the copy for your site. Incorporate them where it’s natural and reads well. Create pages about one particular topic – your aim should be that for people looking for that topic, your page would be the perfect answer for them.
Why would businesses be worried about the fact people can post on their walls and pages?
Social media provide a space for customers, individuals or business interact with brands. We can define it as a two-way communication and therefore, there is a space for different kinds of opinions. But people fear negative comments, including criticism of bad customer service or negative experience with products.
Those comments and reviews are not only broadcast to the followers but also to the poster’s contacts.
Negative publicity spreads quickly.
With Google announcing that around the 21st april, your site’s “mobile friendlliness” will affect your search results, a lot of people are worried. This is because to create your site again, to make it responsive or to make a mobile version, takes time and money, and that may not be something your business has budgeted for.
We get it. As a small business, unexpected costs are the WORST!
Anytime you have to upgrade your PCs, invest in new software, replace a team member, or pay some regulatory body, there are costs which don’t necessarily align with your business’s income and profit. Annoying!
