Could it be fate?
Insight, advice, news and chit chat
I am Jeff Yu from China. Last Christmas, I was preparing my portfolio in Tongji University Shanghai to apply for a master course in University of the Arts London. This Christmas, I have been studying in London for three months and working in Top Left Design for two weeks.
Last week we spent a week in Sofia, Bulgaria, and set up an office in Nu Boyana Film Studios so we could work while we were there. There were 4 of us on the trip – me, Amy, Elisa and Tam.
On Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday we worked full days; other than that we did all sorts of fun and team building things.
Editor’s Note (from Keren) This Poképost was written by James Ross – he has just done a week’s internship, and I set him the project of going out and experiencing Pokémon Go in Soho! Over to James:
Lately, we’ve been doing a lot of work on defining who we are, applying the EOS System with the help of Julia Langkraehr from Bold Clarity. It’s been amazing, and one of the exercises we did was defining our values. We did this as a team, facilitated by until we had narrowed down to 4 key values.
These are the qualities that everyone of us within the team has and what makes us so great to work with!
And there is other evidence of this – in the experiences our clients have and in the information we share on our blog and social media channels.
Keeping your team happy is definitely important to getting great results for your business! Aside from feeling good about yourself as a leader, I wanted to reveal the 8 benefits your business will get as the side effects of a happy workplace!
I have been in London for two months now. It means many days and hours spent. It also means a lot of adventures lived, lessons learnt, and issues faced (most of them solved, happily!)
This post explores some of the challenges I have experienced during my work placement, and a few humble pieces of advice I can now share from experience!
Ever heard the expression work hard play hard? Personally I think it’s a very apt saying and one that we tend to inadvertently apply in the TLD offices. We’re a hard working team with a lot of dedication to the jobs we do, but we also know how to have a good time whilst doing it as well as when we’re having a bit of “down time”.
I’m not sure if everyone is as lucky as us, so we’ve decided to share a few of the things with you that we do here in the office that bring a bit of “play” into our daily lives!
I turn the key into the lock until it’s bolted, slip it into my pocket, and walk away from the door towards the street. The sky is the same hue as the asphalt of the deserted street, like I am walking on a frozen lake reflecting the stormy clouds. As I approach the Tube station, there are more and more people occupying the wet pavement. Some touches of colour show up from the wildest clothes of the magnifying crowd, gradually making the ubiquitous grey of the urban landscape recede into the background. Soon, I reach the station. I notice a great ad across the street offering a journey to Paris, which is described as the “European capital of romance and culture”. I smile – pretty proud – and nod to myself.
So, did you see her?
Confused? Let me explain. I’m currently sitting outside in the sun looking at bunnies in Loch Ness. And you aren’t and wont be the only person asking whether I saw Nessie while I was here. Right here, right now I am going to tell you the truth, and also tell you a bit about this amazing trip we have been on for the last 3 days.
